Pasadena, CA (PRWEB) January 23, 2013

A report released by the Milken Institute lists San Jose as number one among large cities for jobs, wage growth and tech innovation. Among smaller towns, Logan, Utah ranks number one.

The Milken Institute's annual list of best performing cities has ranked San Jose at number one this time because of the increased tech activity in the Silicon Valley area, and with San Jose considered the heart of the region, it has seen increased job opportunities. This is the reason that while in the 2011 report, it was ranked at number 51, in the 2012 report, it has climbed back to the number one spot. The last time it held that spot was in 2001. The report also ranks Austin at number two, followed by Raleigh, Houston and Washington D.C.

Job search website EmploymentCrossing.com has also seen increased job opportunities in these cities over the past few months. San Jose metro area has over 100,000 job openings according to the latest data from the website. Austin has 34,000 job openings. Raleigh has 28,000 job openings, Houston has 50,000 job openings and Washington D.C. has 24,000 job openings.

EmploymentCrossing.com CEO Harrison Barnes says that the reason San Jose and Austin are growing so fast is because of the multiplier effect of the tech industry. “Whenever the tech industry creates one job directly, five jobs are created in other sectors of the local economy. This is especially true in the case of Silicon Valley.”

EmploymentCrossing.com so far has been able to track down 2 million jobs across the United States.
