So far the UK has been relatively snow free. Though predictions now expect a cold snap to hit mid-way through January and possibly endure for quite some time, based on the recent years' trend of extreme and lengthy weather fronts continues.

Despite a temperate season so far, gardeners will be looking to overwinter their plants in the next few weeks to take advantage of the above-freezing temperatures while they last. We provide sprays to defend leaves against frost and insects, or weed control meshes to lay under paving slabs and gravel, stopping weeds from growing altogether. Obviously it's important to defend plants against wind and freezing, so warming bags are available for shrubs. Some plants are too weak to carry insulation, so wire netting and bamboo canes are perfect for those cases where consumers must build insulation themselves”.

Setting up homemade plants insulation is a relatively painless process easily completed on a budget. For trees too large for warming bags, they can have bubble wrap, straw or other insulators wrapped around them, before securing the material with wire or netting. For more delicate plants this may stress the trunk too far, so a support system must be made. Arrange and tie bamboo canes in a cylindrical cage or cone structure, then force the building into the ground. Fill the bamboo cage with bubble wrap, straw, or any other light and appropriate loose. Again, wrap the structure in some form of wiring to protect against wind. To avoid rotting of the straw some gardeners then place a warming bag over the sturdy structure to defend against rain.
