SUNNYVALE, CALIFORNIA--(Marketwire - Jan. 21, 2013) - Meru Networks, Inc. MERU, a leader in virtualized wireless LAN solutions, today announced that Anderson University has deployed a campus-wide Meru Education-Grade (MEG(TM)) wireless solution. Anderson University is ranked one of the best universities in the South by both U.S. News and World Report and The Princeton Review.

The MEG deployment supports Anderson's Mobile Learning Initiative (MLI), which is driving rapid growth of university-issued and BYOD mobile devices, as well as associated application traffic. Anderson issues iPads to all incoming full-time students as the foundation of MLI, an ambitious program designed to deliver hybrid learning through flipped classrooms. While some of the interaction occurs in a traditional class setting, a significant portion of it occurs anywhere and anytime students want to learn.

"The MEG wireless solution enables our transformation to 21st century learning with flipped and hybrid classrooms, computer-based instruction, and unified communications and collaboration," said Peter Harvin, chief information officer for Anderson University. "We have 1,300 residential students and they expect Internet access to allow them to do the kinds of things they would ordinarily do at home - recreational video and voice streaming, social networking, and other activities you don't typically find in a business environment. With MEG supporting our MLI, they are able to do what they want, when and where they want to do it."

With MLI, students can watch classroom lectures on their iPads from their residence halls, or during breaks between classes at campus cafes - at their own pace and convenience. They can also "virtually" visit the library, ask questions of their professors and consult with their classmates through unified communications suites without leaving their dorm rooms. When they arrive at class, they are prepared to learn collaboratively, with iPads as their common point of engagement.

Meru's MEG solution is designed to solve colleges' and universities' BYOD issues and support their learning-essential applications. MEG starts with three simple steps:

1. Onboard quickly with BYOD provisioning and secure wireless access mapped
to IT policies.
2. Connect all BYOD devices reliably anywhere on campus.
3. Learn by deploying validated learning and teaching applications on BYOD
devices over the MEG wireless platform.

The Anderson MEG deployment consists of a Meru MC4200 controller, Meru AP433 access points in high-density areas and Meru AP320 and AP320i access points deployed campus-wide. Meru E(z)RF(R) Network Manager provides network-wide monitoring, end-to-end visibility and powerful control of the entire deployment.

"Anderson is a leading-edge university, having made great strides to enable advanced, technically diverse teaching leveraging the MEG mobility solution to enable uninterrupted learning," said Sarosh Vesuna, vice president and general manager of the education business unit at Meru. "The increased control that MEG provides IT managers has helped them prioritize residents' communication requirements and is designed to ensure that their requirements can be met now and in the future."
