Whirlwind Steel Completes Work on New Facility for Nation's Oldest Cricket Farm

Whirlwind Steel Buildings, a leading pre-fabricated metal building manufacturer, was recently selected by Louisiana-based Armstrong Cricket Farm to manufacture a new cricket house.

Houston's Whirlwind Steel Buildings, an industry-leading manufacturer of steel building systems, components and roofing, recently finished work a new cricket house for Armstrong Cricket Farm, the country's oldest commercial cricket grower.

At 45' x 127' x 12', the West Monroe, LA-based facility measures 5715 square feet and features a 2:12 roof slope, a Polar White Super Span X roof and walls and two 45' transverse partitions to separate the male and female crickets housed within. The building also includes multiple windows for ventilation to accommodate the additional heat given off by the crickets as they grow.

Contractor Tommy Kountz, owner of Louisiana's T.K. Steel Buildings, LLC, selected Whirlwind for the job after a two-decade relationship.
