Houston Staple contributes baked goods to local charities.

Houston, Texas (PRWEB) December 20, 2012

Three Brothers Bakery places an importance on giving back to the community year-round, but during December, this local bakery's charitable spirit shines even brighter as the establishment donates truckloads of surplus baked goods to local charities to help sweeten the holidays for thousands of Houstonians.

Three Brothers Bakery's dedication to helping charities was engrained by the original “Three Brothers” when opening the bakery in 1949, exactly four years after they were liberated from a Nazi concentration camp. When the brothers moved to Houston as Holocaust survivors, they had no money and grew the bakery from the ground up. Because of the hardships their family has endured, the Jucker family truly understands the power of generosity, as they have been beneficiaries of it, too.

The bakery has a longstanding dedication to donating excess baked goods, on an almost daily basis, to Houston's Star of Hope, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and other charities and the hungry throughout the years. The Star of Hope provides shelter and assistance for homeless men, women and their children. The Food Network of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul advocates against food insecurity and provides food products to those in need.

During the holiday season, the demand for baked goods is higher than usual, and Three Brothers Bakery makes more products to accommodate this need. Because its products are made fresh daily, there are extra baked goods every night, which are then donated to the Juckers' chosen organizations. Vehicles from The Star of Hope and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul come to one of Three Brothers Bakery's two locations almost every day, where the bakers load the vehicles with the store's extra baked items such as their famous danish, rolls, bagels, coffee cakes and challah bread.

“Our family feels passionately about giving to those in need, especially during the holidays,” Bobby Jucker, one of the bakery's owners, said. “There's no better feeling than knowing something you made will bring joy to someone less fortunate. Sharing our happiness and lending a hand to local citizens are two of the best parts of my job.”

In addition to donations of baked goods to the homeless community and to Star of Hope and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Three Brothers Bakery will provide a sheet cake to the US Department of Veterans Affairs' holiday party and has done so for almost 25 years. For the first time, the bakery donated to Freedom Place, a care and recovery center for female victims of domestic child sex trafficking. Three Brothers Bakery donated gingerbread houses for the girls at the Freedom Place to decorate and enjoy through a volunteer effort coordinated by Lakewood Church. The bakery strongly supports the MD Anderson Cancer Center and gives cakes and treats for patients at the hospital, upon request.

About Three Brothers Bakery

The traditions of Three Brothers Bakery began in Chrzanow, Poland circa 1825, and continued to thrive despite the family's concentration camp imprisonment during the Holocaust. Their miraculous liberation, and subsequent move to Houston, brought Eastern European scratch baking traditions to 4036 S. Braeswood Blvd and 12393 Kingsride Lane, where the owners are now proud to call themselves “memory makers who just happen to be bakers.” Perfecting the process for almost 200 years, each day the fifth generation bakers produce mostly dairy-free breads and pastries, cookies, a full line of specialty dessert cakes and pies, as well as custom birthday, special occasion, wedding and groom's cakes using only the highest quality ingredients.
