On 27 November, AOMi contributed to an important round-table policy seminar hosted by Reform. Reform is an independent, non-party think tank whose mission is to set out a better way to deliver public services and economic prosperity.

(PRWEB UK) 20 December 2012

The event was held under the Chatham House Rule and was entitled ‘Managing change in the public sector'. The event aimed to provide a forum for debate around the implementation of efficiency reforms and radical transformations in the delivery of public services. Stephen Kelly, the Chief Operating Officer for Government and Director of the Efficiency and Reform Group, led the discussion, which involved a group of high-level guests from across the public sector, including policymakers, public service leaders and key stakeholders.

AOMi has helped public sector organisations in both the UK and abroad to deliver against their efficiency and performance transformation targets. For this event, AOMi was asked to present a case study that demonstrated their experience of the successful transformation of service delivery within the public sector. The case study outlined how, with AOMi's help, one of the largest providers of citizens' services now has managers who are more confident in their decisions and who make ‘active' choices about resources in the face of variations in demand. In addition, this provider was able to deliver significant efficiency gains, processing increasing volumes of incoming work with approximately 20% fewer staff.

Discussions at the seminar ranged across a number of topics, including the need to redesign public services so that they are based on the needs of citizens. The steps that could be taken to develop a capability in operations planning and control—as described in AOMi's case study--could form the basis for achieving this transformation.
