Sarasota, Fla. (PRWEB) December 11, 2012

International disaster relief organization, ShelterBox, continues to deliver emergency shelter and other supplies designed to withstand harsh winter conditions to Syrian refugees who have fled to neighboring countries due to ongoing conflict. More than 500,000 refugees have left Syria, while over two million remain internally displaced.

ShelterBox responds following disasters such as earthquake, flood, tsunami, hurricane, cyclone or conflict by delivering boxes of aid. Each box contains a disaster relief tent, stove, water filtration system, blankets and other items necessary to help families live independently and with dignity in the months following disaster.

Members of the highly trained ShelterBox Response Team (SRT) are working in Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey to distribute ShelterBoxes containing winterized tents and groundsheets, blankets, sets of hats, gloves and scarves, water carriers, stoves, fuel bottles and additional supplies to Syrian families.

“It's getting cold, so blankets and groundsheets are essential to families living here,” said SRT member, Sallie Buck, who is working in the region.

To date, 500 boxes of winterized aid have been distributed to families living in the Domiz refugee camp in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. ShelterBox has also provided supplies for 800 students attending a UNICEF school just outside the camp.

SRT members are working to distribute nearly 450 boxes that have been prepositioned in Amman, Jordan, and additional ShelterBox aid is en route to the Syria-Turkey border as families are in desperate need with cold, wet winter conditions approaching.

ShelterBox is also responding to the typhoon in the Philippines, earthquakes in Guatemala, and flooding in Nigeria, Senegal and Uganda.
