John Lusink and the Awesome Foundation, Newmarket – Award December Grant

John Lusink, along with other trustees of the Awesome Foundation Newmarket, this week presented the monthly Awesome Grant for December, a $1000 award, to Lee-Ann Smalley of Armitage Village Public School to help promote their Healthy Schools Program.

John Lusink, along with other trustees of the Awesome Foundation Newmarket, this week presented the monthly Awesome Grant for December, a $1000 award, to Lee-Ann Smalley of Armitage Village Public School to help promote their Healthy Schools Program.

Ms. Smalley had submitted an application for the monthly award in an effort to promote a healthier lifestyle among the youth of Newmarket. The Healthy Schools Committee at Armitage Village Public School was founded on the belief that “healthy learners are better learners.” The Committee promotes healthy choices among their students, including healthy lifestyle choices and activities. The trustees of the Newmarket Chapter of the Awesome Foundation agreed that this was a worthy goal which would benefit from their support, and decided to present the $1000 Monthly Awesome Foundation Award to Ms. Smalley and her group.

“We will always support those who promote healthy choices for a healthy lifestyle among the children of our community,” said John Lusink, Trustee of the Awesome Foundation, Newmarket, and a well known local businessman.

The Healthy Schools Committee offers a variety of programs to help students learn to make healthier choices, including a Walking/Running Club, Intramural Sports, Jump Rope for Heart & Healthy Eating Programs, The Big Crunch, Daily Physical Activity for 20 minutes a day, & PLAY Leaders Recess Program.

“The money will be used to purchase outdoor equipment to promote a healthy lifestyle through active participation,” said Ms. Smalley, “equipment such as: sponge balls, basketballs, scoops & balls, a mini parachute, hoops, skipping equipment, pinneys & flag football equipment. This equipment will be available to PLAY Leaders & students during recess activity times.”
This is the 6th Awesome Foundation Grant awarded by the Newmarket Chapter of the Awesome Foundation. Previous grants have been awarded to the Spinal Cord Injury Youth Awareness Project (July 2012), a prevention program for youth who are most at risk of spinal cord injury, and “You Are Not Alone” (September 2012), a program that focuses on helping students with anticipatory grief or bereavement through their peers and teachers.

The trustees of the Awesome Foundation, Newmarket Chapter are pleased to award the $1000 December grant to Ms. Smalley, to aid her and the Healthy Schools Committee at Armitage Village Public School in their effort to promote healthy lifestyle choices among the school-aged children of our community.

The Newmarket Chapter of the Awesome Foundation awards $1000 each month to individuals or organizations that promote prosperity, education, community involvement and education to the youth of Newmarket.
