Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) December 06, 2012

The Coalition for a Democratic Syria condemns in the strongest possible terms any movement on the part of the Assad regime towards the use of chemical weapons against the Syrian people.

According to press reports, U.S. officials have stated that the Syrian military has loaded bombs with precursors to deadly sarin gas, and that the Assad regime has moved chemical weapon stocks. The CDS condemns the use of chemical weapons on the Syrian people and calls on the United States and the international community to prevent the deployment of these weapons, and in so doing to prevent any further damage to the Syrian people.

“The fact that mass atrocities involving chemical weapons need to happen in Syria before the U.S. will intervene is unacceptable. The United States, NATO, and the Arab League should take all necessary actions and precautions to prevent the deployment of these weapons against the civilian population in Syria,” stated Mahmoud Khattab, Chair of the CDS.

The Coalition for a Democratic Syria is a group of five Syrian-American non-profit organizations working together in Washington, DC to bring about a swift end to the conflict in Syria and support the establishment of a free and democratic Syria. The Coalition for a Democratic Syria is a multi-ethnic, multi-confessional, and non-partisan organization. The CDS includes: Syrian American Council, the Syrian Emergency Task Force, United for Free Syria, Syrian American Alliance, and Syrian Expatriates Organization.
