Heatherwood Communities Launches Hurricane Sandy Relief Program, Pitching in a Month's Rent for Displaced Families Seeking Long Island Apartments

With Long Island so deeply affected by the hurricane's aftermath, rental property owner Heatherwood seeks to strengthen ties with the community through their Hurricane Sandy relief program, partnerships with local businesses, a deeper connection to the public through social media and a new, user-friendly website.

After Hurricane Sandy, many affected and displaced families have searched for help only to find none. Thankfully, Heatherwood Communities has shouldered some of the responsibility, reaching out to the affected community with a multi-faceted hurricane relief program that offers a free month on long-term leases, allows short-term leases, waives all application fees and presents a deal from Men on the Move for half off moving and packing supplies. The program's first two weeks have been an overwhelming success, with 30 leases already signed. “We felt the need as a family-owned company that has operated on Long Island for over 50 years to help our neighbors get back on their feet”, says Heatherwood Communities Marketing Director, Michael Spampinato. The program has helped to make the transition from devastation back to normal life a faster, easier one for many Long Island families.

Heatherwood Communities has 17 locations throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties. From villas to high rises, their luxury properties boast resort amenities such as clubhouses, pools, golf courses (one of which is PGA certified), ponds stocked for recreational fishing, community centers, fitness facilities and more. Heatherwood Communities believes in reasonable prices for outstanding accommodations, and it shows. The properties are pet-friendly, include free heat and water and are currently undergoing modern, multi-million dollar renovations for all complexes, inside and out. Another reason residents appreciate Heatherwood community living is the impeccable maintenance standards. “We have 24-hour, on-call maintenance staff at every site ready to attend to emergency concerns. After Hurricane Sandy we had power back on in all but four units within four days. Our office was open the day after the storm. Fallen trees had been cleared within 48 hours. Siding and roof damage was repaired within 48 hours. Our maintenance staff works around the clock to make sure our tenants are taken care of.”

The brand new Heatherwood Communities website has greater ease of use with more robust features for current and potential tenants alike. Apartment hunters can search by location, price range or apartment style. Applications are accepted online for approval and both virtual and in-person tours of the facilities and luxury apartments are available. A portal is being created for current tenants to access such personalized features as a list of available amenities, account information, discounts and benefits. “This new website is the backbone of our new marketing and branding strategy and we're extremely proud of what people will see when they log on.”

In an effort to strengthen ties and develop partnerships with other Long Island businesses, Heatherwood has reached a deal with Sweet Frog premium frozen yogurt for a 10% off discount to all Heatherwood tenants. They've also partnered with office supplier W.B. Mason as well as local restaurants and are in the process of striking a deal with Man on the Move to continue to offer help with tenants moving into Heatherwood Communities. Michael Spampinato is excited at the prospect of building value for residents. “These partnerships will give tenants from all 17 locations access to discounts on products, food and other services they use every day.”

Heatherwood will be launching a complete social media presence in the near future, utilizing Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Mr. Spampinato notes, "We're looking to provide our tenants with an unmatched social media presence in order to keep our current and potential renters up-to-date with information on our properties and current specials. Heatherwood is continuing to grow and build throughout Long Island and we feel it's important to keep the Long Island public in the know.”
