Regarding Mr. Kennedy's appointment, Port Commission Chairman Jim Edmonds said, "On behalf of the Port Commission, we look forward to working with John Kennedy and utilizing his expertise as the commission continues to strive to meet our mandate of job creation and economic prosperity for the region, state and nation."

Kennedy said that he was excited to serve as a member of the Port Commission. "I am really appreciative of the fact that the county commissioners appointed me to the position that I think fits very well with a lot of my military background in transportation and logistics. I am looking forward to it. I think there's no more important institution in our region for making economic development a reality than the port."
