How CareerBliss Determines The Top 50:

CareerBliss data evaluates the key factors that affect work happiness including: work-life balance, one's relationship with his/her boss and co-workers, work environment, job resources, compensation, growth opportunities, company culture, company reputation, daily tasks and job control over work performed on a daily basis. The data accounts for how an employee values each factor. Each review is given an average score indicating where the company places between one and five.

“Being able to be truly happy at work is one of the keys to being happy in life,” says Heidi Golledge, CEO and Co-founder of CareerBliss. “CareerBliss recognizes companies that excel at providing happy work environments since it is a vital part of the CareerBliss mission to foster rich and rewarding work cultures for everyone.”

CareerBliss data highlights new shifts in the way employees and employers value happiness. “We see the way employees work has a great impact on their overall happiness. Unlike previous years, where companies like Google and Apple reigned in the top 10 and top 20, engineering, pharmaceutical and government ranked supreme in employee happiness,” Golledge says.

“It is important to note that companies that saw a change in their workforce, even amongst layoffs or shifts in programming, still ranked high for overall employee happiness. Many companies on the CareerBliss Happiest Awards continue to rank high year after year,” Golledge says.

Bradley Brummel, Ph.D. in workplace psychology says all of these companies received high scores on the type of work employees do and how they manage their work.

“Employees in these companies have the freedom to use their knowledge, skills, and abilities to solve interesting problems. This type of problem solving can be intrinsically motivating and leads to a happy workplace,” Brummel says.

Happiness is not just a fad — companies like Qualcomm, The U.S. Department of Defense and even top ranked Pfizer were all noted in the Top 50 CareerBliss Happiest Company Awards last year, proving that a happy work environment can last year after year and provide continued success for both company and employees alike.

“For companies looking to improve morale and their and bottom line, the CareerBliss Happiest Companies Awards offer insight into what the top companies in America are doing right,” Golledge says.
