Berlin – As of this coming Friday, the experienced team of the Messe Berlin Congress Division will be aiming to attract business nationally and internationally with a new name: Messe Berlin Conventions. Dr. Ralf G. Kleinhenz, Vice President Messe Berlin Conventions: 'We are confident that the combination of a globally recognised brand, Messe Berlin, and our activity description, Conventions, will send out a strong message to our customers regardless of our building location: that we organise congresses at the highest, international level in one of the most fascinating cities in the world.'

For more than 33 years the team of the International Congress Center Berlin (ICC Berlin) has successfully organised large-scale international congresses and events. As a result, Europe's largest congress centre is the six-times winner of the World Travel Award and has also been honoured with other awards. Initially, the team's activities focused only on the ICC Berlin, but it now organises MICE events on the entire exhibition grounds. Among the venues frequently used are the Marshall Haus, the Palais am Funkturm, the spacious South Entrance and the modern halls adjacent to it.

In September of this year the opening of the new exhibition grounds at Berlin ExpoCenter Airport signalled the beginning of a new chapter for Messe Berlin's congress business as well. Thus the first event on the new grounds, the ILA Berlin Air Show, played host to more than 100 supporting congresses, conferences and meetings.

At the beginning of 2014 the team of Messe Berlin Conventions will face another challenge. The ICC Berlin will close for renovation work and subsequently the CityCube Berlin, a new multi-functional congress and trade fair venue, will open for business. This building is currently under construction on the site of the former Deutschlandhalle, next door to the South Entrance of the exhibition grounds. In the future, there will be room for up to 10,000 people at events in the CityCube Berlin, which is already almost fully booked up for 2014. Numerous inquiries have already been made by major national and international organisers for 2015.

About Messe Berlin Conventions

As of 1 November 2012 Messe Berlin Conventions is the brand that stands for the congress business of Messe Berlin. In the past, during the last 33 years, most of the MICE events organised by the Congress Division of Messe Berlin took place in the International Congress Center Berlin (ICC Berlin). Nowadays they are held everywhere on the grounds at Berlin ExpoCenter City. Since September 2012 congresses and conferences have also been taking place on the new exhibition grounds at Berlin ExpoCenter Airport. When the ICC Berlin closes for renovation the CityCube Berlin, the city's new trade fair and congress venue, will open for business in early 2014. Last year the Congress Division of Messe Berlin organised a total of 438 conferences and shows at which overall attendance was 161,350. According to the industry association ICCA, Berlin ranks fourth among the leading cities hosting conferences. More details are available at www.messe-berlin.de/conventions.

About Messe Berlin GmbH

The history of trade fairs in Berlin goes back to 1822 when the first industrial exhibition marked the beginning of trade fairs which were organised and held in Berlin. 100 years later, in 1923, the trade fair company was founded. Today Messe Berlin, which consistently operates with a profit, is one of the world's ten leading trade fair companies with its own exhibition grounds and has a workforce of around 700 employees. In 2012 turnover is projected to be around 230 million euros.

Messe Berlin operates two exhibition grounds in the capital's local region. Berlin ExpoCenter City, the company's well-established venue next to the Berlin Radio Tower, has display halls covering 160,000 square metres as well as a 100,000 square-metre outdoor display site. Next door to these grounds Messe Berlin operates the International Congress Center Berlin (ICC Berlin), Europe's largest conference centre. The CityCube Berlin, a new trade fair and congress arena, is currently being built on the former site of the Deutschlandhalle. As of 2014 congresses will take place here while planned restoration work takes place on the ICC Berlin. Located next to the capital's future airport BER, Berlin ExpoCenter Airport was completed in summer 2012 and is now available for events. It features permanent display halls occupying more than 20,000 square metres, as well as extensive open-air grounds which can accommodate other temporary display halls or can be used for large-scale outdoor displays.

Specialised subsidiaries guarantee comprehensive services at national and international level. Programme highlights include ITB Berlin, IFA, the International Green Week Berlin, FRUIT LOGISTICA, the International Air Show ILA and InnoTrans. Messe Berlin operates a network of 72 foreign representatives in more than 130 countries around the world.
