Sir Arthur Conan Doyle created the detective in 1887 and his stories have been loved by millions world wide. Sky News have recently reported about some of the celebrations marking the 125th anniversary.
One of the few first edition Holmes story, A Study In Scarlet is not on permanent display as it is too fragile, but has been displayed in the City Museum in Portsmouth in an exhibition along with other items from the collection.
Stephen Fry, who is patron of the Arthur Conan Doyle Collection, said of the exhibition "One hundred and twenty five years of the world's most recognisable, enduring and influential detective. A century and a quarter of Sherlock Holmes."
