Middle States Commission on Higher Education Elects Berkeley College President Dario A. Cortes, PhD, as Commissioner

At the Annual Meeting of the Middles States Commission on Higher Education Dario A. Cortes, PhD, President, Berkeley College, was elected as a commissioner.

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education has elected Dario A. Cortes, PhD, President, Berkeley College, as a Commissioner. The announcement was made yesterday at the annual meeting of the Commission in Philadelphia, PA. The three-year term begins January 1, 2013.

The Commission, which is a unit of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, is a voluntary, non-governmental membership association that promotes educational excellence across institutions with diverse missions, student populations and resources. Its focus is the higher education community in a region that includes Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and several locations internationally.

Dr. Cortes joins 25 elected volunteers who are responsible for making decisions on the accreditations of institutions and Commission policies. These professionals and administrators are selected for the unique perspectives they may bring to the discussion of higher education.

Dr. Cortes was appointed President of Berkeley College in July 2008. He previously held several senior-level administrative positions including President and Executive Director of the American School Foundation, A.C. (ASF), in Mexico City. He served as Vice President for Academic Affairs at the Fashion Institute of Technology, the State University of New York. In addition, Dr. Cortes served as Dean at Fairleigh Dickinson University and Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Research at the University of Maryland at College Park.
