Cityteam Perpares for the Largest Thanksgiving for Low-Income Families and the Homeless

Over 3,000 people have pre-registered for help this Thanksgiving with Cityteam in Silicon Valley and Oakland, California.

On Tuesday, November, 20th, Cityteam in San Jose and Oakland, will be serving over 3,500 people a traditional thanksgiving meal and providing them with a Thanksgiving food box and turkey. Lines of seniors, families with young children and many others         in-between have been pre-registering for more help this year than ever before. A majority of them are new faces that are struggling to put food on the table.

“For many people this is going to be a lean holiday,” said Carol Patterson, executive with Cityteam. “In this economy, serving more people has become the norm for all our Cityteam locations around the Bay Area. Our donations have decreased but our donors, local churches and corporate partners are so faithful to step in and help when they can. We couldn't do this without them.”

“This year social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter played a big role in allowing us to connect with our friends and their friends all over the Bay Area that wanted to help. Turkeys and canned items started pouring into our different centers. The response was amazing,” said Ms. Patterson.
