On November 19, Fernando Perez of Probiotic Action reacts to an article published by The New York Times reporting a study released by the American Academy of Dermatology which states that acne is now more common among adult women that ever before.
You may think that the worst of your acne is behind you after your teenage years are over. According to a new study, this is not necessarily the case. A New York Times article stated that “[t]oday, clinical acne afflicts the complexions of 45 percent of women ages 21 to 30, 26 percent of women ages 31 to 40, and 12 percent of women ages 41 to 50, according to [a] study, conducted by researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital.”
The article stated that women were more likely to get acne “[w]henever hormones surge — around your period, during perimenopause and menopause, when you're pregnant, when you start or stop the Pill, and, yes, when you're stressed or eat hormone-enhanced foods,” according to Dr. Jeanie Downie said. The article also claims that there is evidence that a poor diet can be attributed to acne in women; however most of this evidence is inconclusive.
Fernando Perez, a spokesperson for Probiotic Action, an all-natural acne formula, issued a reaction to the study. “I was actually not surprised by this study, plenty of our customers are adults dealing with acne,” Perez said. “Luckily there are plenty of adult acne treatments out there that will work for both men and women.”
