Syracuse, New York (PRWEB) November 11, 2012

At 4:40 p.m. on October 26, 2012, after a week of trial and more than three hours of deliberations, an Onondaga County jury returned a $2,000,000.00 verdict in favor of 42 year old David Stauber, a Cortland man who was injured on June 2, 2010, when the scaffolding he was standing on to install roofing at a SUNY Binghamton jobsite collapsed (New York State Supreme Court, Onondaga County, Deborah H. Karalunas, J.S.C., Index No. 2010-3530). Mr. Stauber was represented by Aaron Ryder, Esq., a Syracuse construction accident lawyer with the Syracuse, New York personal injury law firm of Bottar Leone, PLLC.

Very similar to the fall that occurred on November 9th at a SUNY Oswego jobsite, in which 37 year old Lateef Haskins, an ironworker employed by Solvay Iron Works fell approximately 30 feet, Mr. Stauber fell approximately 60 feet to the ground. Both incidents triggered investigations by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). OSHA is a federal agency charged with ensuring safe working conditions throughout the nation.

According to OSHA, construction worker falls are the leading cause of death on the jobsite. In 2010, there were 264 fall fatalities (out of 774 construction fatalities). In an effort to decrease the number of construction site fatalities, OSHA has partnered with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA), to raise awareness among property owners, contractors and workers about common fall hazards, including floor openings, scaffolding failures, ladder hazards, and falls from roofs, decking and planking.

Since 1983, Bottar Leone, PLLC, has prosecuted complex personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits throughout the State of New York, and has earned national recognition by U.S. News and World Report / Best Lawyers as a "first-tier" law firm personal injury litigation. The Firm represents only only individuals and families that have experienced a preventable injury or loss.
