The firm is proud to announce that attorney Carly Steinberg has joined their impressive legal team.
Carly Steinberg initially obtained her undergraduate degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland, College Park, graduating cum laude (with honors). From there she went on to earn her Juris Doctor from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Yeshiva University in New York City where she graduated with a concentration on family law. While attending Cardozo, she participated in the family court clinic and the divorce mediation clinic. Cardozo's clinics allow clinic participants to perform important community service while gaining critical professional work skills as they represent real people, many of whom are either elderly or poor.
While attending Cardozo, Steinberg was involved in the Cardozo Dispute Resolution Society, Negotiation Competition (Fall 2008), Student Hurricane Network & Sinai Scholars. She was also involved with the Cardozo Journal of Conflict Resolution (CJCR), which is one of the nation's preeminent legal journals on arbitrations, negotiations and mediation. She earned the Monmouth County Bar Association Scholarship, and she was involved in Deborah T. Poritz Summer Public Interest Fellowship.
Her honors include being a Dean's Academic Scholar, being a member of the Primannum Honor Society, a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and she was involved in Golden Key International Honour Society activities. She was a teacher's assistant, Juvenile Delinquency (Fall 2006), and she was the Phi Sigma Sigma Sorority Standards Chair (Spring 2007).
She was a judicial intern for the Honorable Louis B. York, the New York Supreme Justice from June of 2009 to August of 2009. While serving under Judge York, she researched and drafted judicial opinions regarding motions to dismiss, motions to intervene and motions for temporary restraining orders. She also observed motion hearings, settlement negotiations and trials, and she attended lectures on legal writing, civil practice and matrimonial law.
From January to May of 2010, she was selected by the faculty to participate in a semester-long clinic where she researched and reported on juvenile delinquency matters. She prepared adoption files and observed family court proceedings.
In 2010 she was competitively selected by faculty to participate in a semester long clinic, during which time she mediated matrimonial cases under faculty supervision, she drafted separation and divorce papers, and she evaluated and critiqued mediations. From June to August of 2010 she was a legal intern for the New Jersey Coalition for Battered Women. While there, she provided legal information and referrals to the victims of domestic violence.
From January of 2011 to May of 2011, attorney Steinberg was a legal intern for Perez & Cedeño. As a legal intern she researched and drafted legal memoranda on criminal and family law issues, she drafted motions and petitions for family, civil and criminal court proceedings, and she conducted interviews with clients.
Upon graduation law school, attorney Steinberg took a position as an associate attorney at the Law Offices of Jef Henninger in New Jersey, while there she practiced both criminal and family law. Now that Carly Steinberg has taken a position with Perez & Cedeño, she will continue practicing criminal and family law.
