Augusta Health's Arlene Macellaro Named 2012 Staff Physician Recruiter of the Year

Jackson & Coker announces winner of national contest to recognize excellence in hospital staff physician recruiters.

As a result of the reputation and support she's earned among physicians and executives in Fishersville, Virginia, Augusta Health's Arlene Macellaro was named the 2012 Staff Physician Recruiter of the Year by the national staffing firm Jackson & Coker.

The award was created and sponsored by Jackson & Coker to draw attention to the critical and often unsung role in-house physician recruiting professionals play in hospitals across the U.S.

“As hospitals move toward an employed model for physicians, the demands of their recruiters have increased significantly,” said Sandra Garrett, President of Jackson & Coker. “ We wanted to create a reward-and-recognition program that shines a light on the vital role the in-house physician recruitment team fills, not only in the growth of the health system, but also in its ability to serve the diverse needs of its community.”

Nominations were made by hospital administrators and physicians through an online survey tool. Ms. Macellaro was selected among all nominees reviewed by an independent panel of healthcare executives that included Charles R. Evans, FACHE President of International Health Services Group, James M. Dixon, President/CEO of HealthSHARE, Donald O'Bryan, CMSR, FMSD, Corporate Director of Physician Recruitment with Mountain States Health Alliance and David Andrick, CMSR/FMSD/FASPR, Director of Physician Recruitment and Relations with Wilson Memorial Hospital. Their decision was based upon the content quality of the nominations submitted, not the quantity of nominations.

Barbara Worthington of Providence Health & Services in Portland, Oregon, was named the 2012 Top Finalist. Aymee Quinn of Asante Health System in Medford, Oregon, Rebekah Driggers of Cone Health in Greensboro, North Carolina and Stephanie Hobson of Scott and White Health System in Temple, Texas were also named finalists.

As the 2012 winner, Ms. Macellaro will choose from multiple award options, all of which embody the spirit of giving back. Finalists receive awards and certificates of recognition.
