The channel surpassed the milestone this summer, thanks to the company's overall growth and tech-savvy staff. While many business-to-consumer brands have achieved this breakthrough, it is a rare and proud accomplishment among business-to-business companies like The WEBstaurant Store.
Social Media Specialist Steve Ziegler credits this success to the company's variety of how-to, behind-the-scenes, and recipe videos. But there are some videos that stand out among the rest.
"Our video, called 'Fried Gnocchi', went viral in late 2010," Ziegler said. "The video features me attempting to make a fried version of Italian dumplings and has an unexpected, somewhat disastrous, and funny result."
While that single video accounts for over 700,000 of the company's views, it only receives about 10 to 15 percent of the monthly traffic, Ziegler said, one of many points of pride for the popular e-commerce company.
"We don't have a big budget like the consumer brands, so we have to rely on some serendipity to have something like that video happen," Ziegler said. "And there needs to be freedom to try things. In the case of 'Fried Gnocchi', that meant a spur-of-the-moment video response to a tweet on Twitter about a recipe."
Digital Media Supervisor Stephanie Fleetman said that while the videos are entertaining, they also serve a more practical purpose.
"Creating high-quality videos is part of our overall business strategy," Fleetman said. "We want to give customers the best product and restaurant business information on the Web, and that includes combining expert commentary, top-notch video production, and hard work."
And while 1 million views is definitely a proud accomplishment, Videographer David Gerz says the company plans to continue video production and reach greater popularity.
"We're really starting to diversify our videos and create great content that will help get our name out there and reach even more people," Gerz said.
