Topeka, KS (PRWEB) November 05, 2012

Members of FHLBank Topeka's four-state district will soon be receiving $8.8 million in grants for affordable housing. The grants were awarded to 29 projects through FHLBank Topeka's Affordable Housing Program (AHP). Nonprofit groups, for-profit developers and public entities apply for the grants through one of FHLBank's member institutions, comprising nearly 830 commercial banks, savings institutions, credit unions, and insurance companies in Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma. Each year, FHLBank Topeka allocates 10% of its prior year's earnings for AHP.

AHP grants are projected to improve or create 851 housing units throughout the country. Nearly 84% of the projects focus on rental properties, and about 16% are homeowner projects.

FHLBank's housing and community development programs are an important part of sustaining its mission, to make a difference by helping our members build their communities. The AHP is one way to support our member banks as they support their communities. See the AHP page on http://www.fhlbtopeka.com/community for a complete list of this year's projects.
