Renowned street-wear brand Bench launches an Autumn/Winter 2012 Menswear collection based around two key themes, Primal and Remix.

Primal combines elements of Bench's rich heritage with an instinctively functional approach to design. Utilitarian details are fused with traditional features and finishes creating a new style which is both typically Bench and on trend. Examples of this can be seen in the men's coats category.

The great outdoors comes to the city in the form of chunky textured knitwear layered over colour clash plaid shirting. Fairisle crew necks, Nordic inspired sweat fabrics and shaggy fleece linings ensure the collection has a contemporary wintery feel whilst heavily wadded parkas with fur trims, quilted gilets and waxed military jackets provide protection from the elements.

Remix is a culture clash of merging influences inspired by new media, music and technologies. With this in mind Remix is designed for the gadget geek and the statement maker; someone who knows how to party and lives for the weekend.

Mountain inspired silhouettes in bonded wool teamed with anti-fit pants and colour block sweats epitomise this mashed up style. Reversed denim detail can be seen in the shirting and street inspired graphics dominate the tees. Twisted leg chinos are a key silhouette whilst saturated jewel coloured hoodies create bold visual statements.

The styling for the 12W1 season is much cleaner than previous winter seasons featuring silhouettes that are considered and less sporty. Interest comes through the texture, pattern and the finishes on fabrics while the colour palette contains different tones of blues, khakis and greys for a more muted, sophisticated approach to layering.

The Bench customer was at the forefront of the designer's minds, as explained by Nick Barber, Head of Design (Mens): “Our new collection is inspired by the consumer and their everyday interaction with urban culture, music and media. Paired back silhouettes, bold patterns and eclectic graphic influences combine with our unique attention to detail for an innovative take on street style. A selection of materials with performance characteristics protect from the elements whilst saturated colours glow brightly against a backdrop of concrete greys and crisp winter blues.”

The colour palette is built up over two phases. The first features a scattering of rich autumnal tones set perfectly against concrete greys and marled tarmac black. Earthy neutrals add depth whist deep forest green provides a seasonal alternative to black and military influence can be seen through olive green.

Phase two is all about the bright lights, shimmering pop tones glimmer against dark horizons of black, charcoal and deep navy. Offbeat brights bring a vivid twist to the traditional winter palette, whilst a rustic influence comes in the form of Seal Brown, Picante and Blue Mirage for a more traditional feel.
