Assemblywoman Mary Hayashi Encourages Public to Support the Red Cross in Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts

Assemblywoman Mary Hayashi (D-Hayward) is asking the public to support the efforts of the American Red Cross as they provide aid and relief to thousands of victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Assemblywoman Mary Hayashi (D-Hayward) is asking the public to support the efforts of the American Red Cross as they provide aid and relief to thousands of victims of Hurricane Sandy.

“The Red Cross and its dedicated volunteers are working tirelessly to assist all those in need of support and comfort during this very difficult time,” stated Assemblywoman Mary Hayashi. “They are doing an amazing job, delivering meals and setting up food stations, and providing relief supplies as well as shelter to over 7,000 people who have been forced out of their homes. There are several ways to support their efforts, and I would like to encourage the public to consider making a donation to the Red Cross to help in this effort.”

Since the superstorm hit the northeastern part of the United States, thousands of families have sought relief and aid from the Red Cross. The Red Cross is working with victims in 10 states affected by Hurricane Sandy, and is also seeking immediate blood donations from the public as nearly 360 blood drives in the disaster area have been cancelled.

The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation's blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. Assemblywoman Mary Hayashi serves the 18th Assembly District, which includes San Leandro, Hayward, Dublin, most of Castro Valley and Pleasanton, and a portion of Oakland, as well as the unincorporated areas of Ashland, Cherryland, San Lorenzo and Sunol.
