AIM Solder's Vice President of Technology, Karl Seelig, will present his findings in Optimal Choice for Lead-Free Soldering Materials, at the IPC Medical Industries conference being held November 7-9th in Andover, Massachusetts. Sponsored by Philips Healthcare, the conference includes a full-day workshop and a day-and-a-half technical conference and will provide medical device manufacturers with a useful checklist for the leaded-to-lead-free conversion process. Since the deadline in Europe is July 2014 for medical devices to be RoHS-compliant now is definitely the time for all organizations with global sourcing and distribution to obtain the knowledge for an unproblematic transition to lead-free processing.

Other topics of note at the conference include materials selection, lead-free reliability priorities, PCB testing, and lead-free quality concerns and expectations throughout the supply chain along with lead-free cleanliness requirements; a reliability assessment of RoHS-compliant equipment, related environmental legislation issues, and more.

In his more than 30 years of industry experience, Karl has written and presented numerous technical papers on topics including lead-free electronics assembly, no-clean flux technology, assembly and process optimization, and metallurgical studies. Mr. Seelig serves as the Chairman of the IPC Solder Products Value Council and has been involved in the development of material specifications under IPC. He also has received numerous patents in soldering technology, including for lead-free solder alloys.
