As transvaginal mesh lawsuits continue to mount, Boston Scientific acknowledges that continuing concerns about the use of vaginal mesh products helped fuel a worldwide decline of its Women's Health business in the third quarter, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports.

New York, NY (PRWEB) November 01, 2012

As women throughout the country continue to file transvaginal mesh lawsuits, Boston Scientific Corp. said that its Women's Health business declined 11% worldwide in the third quarter, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. According to a transcript of Boston Scientific's third quarter earnings conference call, the decline in its Women's Health business was fueled, in part, by concerns surrounding the use of vaginal mesh products for pelvic organ prolapse repair.* Boston Scientific is currently named in scores of transvaginal mesh lawsuits pending in In re: Boston Scientific Corp., Pelvic Repair System Products Liability Litigation (“MDL No. 2326), now underway in U.S. District Court, District of Southern West Virginia.

“In light of the growing number of transvaginal mesh lawsuits involving Boston Scientific products, it's not surprising the company is seeing an impact in its bottom line,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices, including transvaginal mesh. The firm is currently evaluating potential vaginal mesh lawsuits on behalf of women who suffered mesh erosion, pain, scarring, infection and other serious injuries, allegedly due to transvaginal mesh products.

Bernstein Liebhard LLP partner, Jeffrey Grand, is serving on the Plaintiffs' Steering Committee in the federal Boston Scientific transvaginal mesh litigation.

Transvaginal Mesh Lawsuits
In July 2011, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) warned that there had been a five-fold increase in reports of serious complications associated with the use of transvaginal mesh. The FDA also modified its previous position on the frequency of such complications, stating in the alert that vaginal mesh injuries associated with pelvic organ prolapse repair were not rare. Since then, a growing number of transvaginal mesh lawsuits have been filed by women throughout the country who allege they sustained serious, painful and life-changing injuries following implantation of vaginal mesh to treat pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence.

In addition to the Boston Scientific vaginal mesh lawsuits, several other transvaginal mesh litigations are currently pending in the Southern District of West Virginia, including In re: American Medical Systems, Inc., Pelvic Repair System Products Liability Litigation (“MDL No. 2325”); In re: C.R. Bard, Inc., Pelvic Repair System Products Liability Litigation (“MDL No. 2187”); and In re: Ethicon, Inc., Pelvic Repair System Products Liability Litigation (“ MDL No. 2327”). Mr. Grand is also serving on the Plaintiffs' Steering Committees in these litigations. In addition, Mr. Grand has been named Co-Liaison Counsel in two consolidated actions currently pending in New Jersey Superior Court, In re: Pelvic Mesh Litigation/Bard, No. L-6339-10, and In re: Pelvic Mesh/Gynecare Litigation, No. L-6341-10.

Women who suffered complications following implantation of transvaginal mesh may be entitled to compensation for their medical bills, pain and suffering, and other injuries. Bernstein Liebhard LLP is offering free lawsuit evaluations to any woman injured by vaginal mesh devices.
