Luggage Superstore recommends some important points and a combination of this knowledge and a few skills can make the next backpacking journey a really good one.

  •     Making a decision on the destination is extremely vital. Many backpackers venture out during the summer, but UK summers may not necessarily be summer in another country. Do some research on the area to be sure that the weather would be at its best for the time of year to backpack.
  •     Researching the area not only should be for the weather but for any other issues that may be happening in the country that may affect your holiday.
  •     Backpacking takes a lot or energy, so start getting fit long in advance to totally enjoy the adventure. Even if fitness is already part of your life, increase your cardio, doing more walking and running whilst having a backpack on so as to become totally used to carrying the load.
  •     To avoid new calluses and discomfort on the trip, get the correct walking boots and use and test them on those mini hikes that should be done weeks before. Feet need time to adjust to shoes and boots, so do your feet a favour and break in those boots to avoid spoiling that trip that was probably planned so long in advance.
  •     Take time to get other appropriate kit. Waterproof backpacks with lots of straps and pockets big enough to carry all your needs. Good sleeping bags and tents and appropriate clothing are all important considerations.
  •     Spend time making a list of all the items needed for the trip. Ask others who have done backpacking and do some internet research for essentials that might otherwise be missed.
  •     Backpacking can sometimes be dangerous due to the different terrains involved. Having basic first aid knowledge is extremely important and packing first aid items like plasters and bandage etc should never be forgotten. Pack emergency food supplies also.
  •     Get special travel insurance for trekking to cover medical bills etc.
  •     With the enjoyment of backpacking, respect nature and its environment and this is sheer basic ethics for Backpackers.
