SmartDebit, the UK's leading Direct Debit Bureau, have reviewed the technology being used by charity fundraisers and how Direct Debit donations can be integrated.

(PRWEB UK) 1 November 2012

The majority of people in the UK will be familiar with face-to-face fundraisers approaching them in the high street with a clipboard, canvassing them to set up a Direct Debit donation for their charity. This method of fundraising is beginning to enter the technological age as the clipboards start turning into smart tablets.

Battersea Dogs and Cats Home is one of the first charities in Britain to use a tablet device rather than a clipboard when appealing for support from the public. The new method already accounts for approximately 10 per cent of Battersea's new donors.

According to Fundraising Initiatives, the use of tablet devices has cut the average length of time between the donor's details being taken and the charity receiving their first Direct Debit payment. International environmental activist network, Greenpeace, stated that before they introduced tablets, 18 per cent of sign-ups from face-to-face activities in the street failed to process.

SmartDebit specialise in online Direct Debits for charities and explain the process combined with the use of smart devices in public:

“Efficiency and accuracy are the driving factors behind the use of tablets in face-to-face fundraising in the high street. Paper methods can fall fowl of erroneous details or even being misplaced. With the consumer entering the details directly on to the tablet via a secure online portal, any errors are shown due to the account details being validated in real time” said a spokesman from the Surrey-based Bureau.

He continued to address public perception on the use of such devices for Direct Debit donations “Many people may query why they should donate to an organisation wealthy enough to use smart devices instead of paper. This can be managed by charities making it clear that they are effectively leasing the device and place emphasis on the accuracy and efficiency to organisation's donation stream. Also, the use of this paperless Direct Debit method, reduces the harm caused to the environment”.
