Kings Court Chambers announces rise in Judicial Reviews due to tighter UK Immigration Laws

Share:

As the Home Office looks to reduce the number of overseas immigrants entering the UK, the volume of UK Visa applications being refused is rising rapidly. Stricter UK Immigration rules across certain Visa types mean that many people are now unable to meet the requirements needed to be given permission to enter the UK. In turn, the number of people appealing against refused entry, by way of judicial reviews, is now on the increase.

Kings Court Chambers, an independent Chambers situated in the centre of Birmingham, has witnessed an increase in demand from clients who want to appeal against refused visa applications.

Furthermore, appeals cases have also risen over refusal to grant UK Asylum and other immigration matters, which in turn has seen the number of judicial reviews rise sharply.

Kings Court Chambers joint head, Tariq Rehman, states, “Case reviews concerning immigration matters are increasing rapidly and are a large part of our workload at present.

"Judicial reviews are the only means of appeal for clients who have been refused UK Asylum, Indefinite Leave to Remain or any other form of UK entry clearance and in desperation they will often pursue this course of action to see a refusal decision overturned."

According to figures released by the Office of National Statistics, Pakistani applicants applying for a UK Visa topped the list for the most number of refusals with 1640 out of 2411 applicants refused entry. In many instances many of these applicants appealed through judicial reviews.

Applicants from Sri Lanka also had a high number of refusal cases, with 1289 people out of 1758 who applied, refused permission to enter the UK. Now with UK Immigration rules becoming more and more restrictive, Kings Court Chambers anticipates the number of appeals through judicial reviews to rise further.

The announcement is welcome news for Kings Court Chambers as they continue to enhance their reputation as one of the UK's leading Barristers chambers. At a time when UK Immigration is constantly in the news, Kings Court Chambers is proud to have helped a number of vulnerable people in resolving immigration issues.
