Silicon Mechanics Announces 2nd Annual Research Cluster Grant Competition
Technology with latest AMD Opteron processors and NVIDIA Tesla GPUs to be awarded
Bothell, WA (PRWEB) November 01, 2012
Silicon Mechanics, Inc., a leading manufacturer of rackmount servers, storage, and high-performance computing hardware, announces that it is launching its 2nd Annual Research Cluster Grant competition, where it will donate a complete high-performance computer cluster as part of a highly competitive research grant program. The competition is open to all US and Canadian qualified post-secondary institutions, university-affiliated research institutions, non-profit research institutions, and researchers at federal labs with university affiliations.
Silicon Mechanics has configured an HPC cluster, valued at $80,000, comprised of up-to-the-minute technology provided by partners NVIDIA, AMD, Mellanox, Kingston Technology, Supermicro, Seagate, and Bright Computing. Equipped with NVIDIA® Tesla® GPUs and AMD Opteron™ 6300 Series processors (code named Abu Dhabi), the HPC cluster contains a head node, eight compute nodes, two GPU nodes, and Gigabit and InfiniBand networking.
Submissions will be accepted through February 1, 2013. The grant recipient will be announced on or before March 1, 2013. Submissions will be reviewed for merit and related impacts. Silicon Mechanics strongly encourages collaboration, within and across departments of a single institution, or across multiple institutions.
Details on the grant rules, application requirements, and cluster technical specifications will be available at http://www.researchclustergrant.com.
“Enabled by many generous donations from its partners, Silicon Mechanics is excited to build on last year's highly successful grant program by sponsoring this unique grant opportunity,” said Art Mann, Silicon Mechanics' education/research/government vertical group manager. “This year's cluster features even more of the latest state-of-the-art hardware and software.”
