Leadership Training Firm Rapid Learning Institute Featured in Smart CEO Magazine
Noted business publication talks to RLI CEO Stephen Meyer.
Eddystone, PA (PRWEB) November 01, 2012
Smart CEO, a regional magazine about and for business leaders, has published an interview with Rapid Learning Institute (RLI) Chief Executive Officer Stephen J. Meyer; it appears in the September issue and on its accompanying website.
The article, written by Marc Kramer and entitled “Bounce Back,” is subtitled, “how one entrepreneur turned a failing publishing firm into an e-learning empire.” It recounts the story of how Meyer and his partner, Chief Operating Officer Glenn Eckard, turned what had been primarily a newsletter company into a web-based training and talent development firm. In the story, Meyer talks about the transformation, his creation of RLI's signature six-to-ten-minute Quick Take rapid learning module and the company's fast, unique online workplace training methods.
“Modern employees are extremely busy and have very short attention spans, and they won't watch long (training) modules,” Meyer says in the article. “The concept of ‘chunked' learning – breaking learning into small bits – is extremely powerful and it drives our narrative. We isolate very narrow learning concepts and structure our modules around a memorable ‘aha.'”
In the interview, Meyer also talks about trends in the future of corporate education; his life as an entrepreneur; the hardest part of running a business; his biggest mistake, and the top skills needed by a CEO. He also discusses the biggest misconception that businesses have when it comes to leadership and management training: that it is an event rather than a process.
“You send people to offsite training for two days. They come back with a binder which goes right on the shelf to gather dust. If people change their behaviors, it lasts a week or two, no more. This lost learning - one expert calls it ‘learning scrap' - is costing companies a fortune.” Meyer goes go to talk about how chunked learning and effective coaching can go a long way toward creating better learning outcomes.
The article can be found on pages 20-21 of the magazine or on the Smart CEO website: http://www.smartceo.com. To access the story, please click on the cover of the Philadelphia Edition located on the site's homepage.
