The Ontario SPCA Seeks the Public's Assistance After Two Kittens Were Found Dead in the Water at the Penetanguishene Town Docks

BARRIE, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 9, 2012) - The Ontario SPCA is seeking the public's assistance in a case of alleged animal cruelty. Two ten-week-old kittens were found in a knapsack filled with concrete, in Penetanguishene Bay at the Town Docks, in Penetanguishene, ON.

On Friday November 9, 2012 around 9am a local fisherman noticed a blue and black Athletics Works backpack submerged in the water. After retrieving the bag the fisherman opened it up to find two dead ten-week-old black and white kittens, and two chunks of concrete. The fisherman notified the local police who then reached out to the Ontario SPCA to proceed with the investigation.

The Ontario SPCA is appealing to any witnesses to come forward as they try to determine the events that led up to the discovery of the kittens.

Other items found in the backpack were an empty Carling beer carrying case and a copy of Chill Magazine.

"The Ontario SPCA continues to encourage everyone to be responsible animal owners," says Senior Inspector Steve Toy. "Anyone that has a challenge caring for an animal is encouraged to contact their local Ontario SPCA, Humane Society, or veterinarian for advice and options that are available to ensure the animal gets the care it requires."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Ontario SPCA investigators at 1-888-668-7722 or email cruelty@ontariospca.ca.
