Garfield Dunlop, Ontario PC Mischief Maker At It Again

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 5, 2012) - "Garfield Dunlop (Simcoe North), the Progressive Conservative Critic for Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship Reform, is once again trying to drum up media attention for his failed and indefensible policies," said Patrick Dillon, official spokesperson for Working Families. Dillon was responding to media comments made by Dunlop on Sunday following Glen Murray's announcement that he would seek the leadership of the Ontario Liberal Party.

"Working women and men would be in a worse position if Dunlop and his boss Tim Hudak ever came to power," said Dillon. "Under their misguided proposals Ontario would be put on a course that would lead us in a race to the bottom competing against American states like Louisiana, Arkansas and Georgia."

Under the Conservatives' plan, they would:

--  bust unions by throwing out the Rand formula, which was put in place by
    the Conservatives more than fifty years ago; 
--  do away with card based certification, which would lower wages; 
--  allow employers to opt out of WSIB, which would create financial stress
    to injured workers.

"Not even in Alberta has the government gone as far as what Hudak and Dunlop propose," pointed out Dillon. "The real agenda is to drive down wages to the benefit of their corporate friends. Ontarians can see through their games and will not be fooled.

"Dunlop's scurrilous comments about Working Families are designed to be nothing more than mischief making. Working Families does not endorse any party or candidate and will not be involved in the Ontario Liberal leadership, " said Dillon. "Dunlop knows it and is just trying to score some cheap political points."
