VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Nov. 2, 2012) - CUPE Local 4163 has reached a tentative collective agreement with the University of Victoria. The deal is a no-concessions, four-year agreement with 0-0-2-2% wage increases. The agreement is retroactive to 2010 and includes no wage increases for the first two years under the provincial government's Net Zero Mandate. That mandate stipulated that public sector workers could get no wage increases for 2010 and 2011.

The deal must still be ratified by the union members and by the UVic Board of Governors.

CUPE Local 4163 was without a new contract for more than two years. The 1,500 members represent teaching assistants, language instructors and sessionals.

Today's tentative agreement is the third for CUPE workers at UVic in this round of bargaining. Similar collective agreements were reached earlier this week with CUPE Local 917 and CUPE Local 951. The 900 members of CUPE 951 represent office, technical and childcare workers, while CUPE 917 represents 600 food services, janitorial, trades, groundskeepers, security, and waste management staff.
