CUPE university workers get mediation
BURNABY, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Nov. 2, 2012) - SFU has accepted CUPE Local 3338's invitation for mediation. Job action will continue while the two sides are at the bargaining table this weekend. Picket lines will be up at SFU Harbour Centre and SFU Woodward's in downtown Vancouver on Saturday and Sunday.
More than 1,000 CUPE Local 3338 support workers at Simon Fraser University have been without a contract for more than two years.
On Vancouver Island, CUPE 1858 members and Vancouver Island University have reported they will be in mediated talks for a new collective agreement "over the next few days."
At UBC, CUPE Local 2278 representing 2,300 teaching assistants, tutors, markers and language instructors has announced mediated talks will take place on Tuesday. Talks are also continuing with CUPE Local 4163, representing 1,500 teaching assistants, language instructors and sessionals at UVic.
