EnviroSurfer Embraces a Love of the Ocean and Nature in All of Its Clothing, As the Only Entirely Eco-Friendly Surf Shop
(EMAILWIRE.COM, November 02, 2012 ) Encinitas,California -- It may seem like a no-brainer to combine eco-friendly clothing with a love of surfing, but in actuality, EnviroSurfer is leading the charge when it comes to supplying eco-friendly clothing and gear specifically aimed at surfers.
EnviroSurfer began in 2009, in California, as a way for surfers to enjoy their love of the ocean and the sport, without worrying about the effects their clothing and equipment could have on the environment. According
to the co-founder of EnviroSurfer, Jared Moore, its not just the manufacturing of the clothing at EnviroSurfer that makes the items eco-friendly; the clothes and surfboards are also designed to eliminate what Moore refers to as the toxicity of surfing.
Moore has gathered a great deal of research involving the most used clothing and products in surfing, including surf boards, surf wetsuits, surf wax and sunscreen. According to research, each of these products can have detrimental effects on the environment. For example, surfboards are often made from toxic foam and synthetic resins, with nearly 20% of the foam used during the shaping process ending up in landfills. While this is problematic for the environment, EnviroSurfer offers alternative solutions, including epoxy boards, that Moore says are more durable and have a longer life span, as well as boards made from natural ingredients, such as bamboo, which means the environment is exposed to less toxicity. As far as surf wetsuits go, according to Moores research, these surf necessities are often constructed using synthetic rubber, glue and solvents and toxic chemicals including PVC, all of which can be toxic to both the wearer and the environment. EnviroSurfer offers a number of wetsuits that do not contain PVC, and they also retail a number of thinner suits that use less neoprene.
According to Moore, and the team at EnviroSurfer, surfing is about a love and respect for the ocean and the environment, which makes it important for surfers to understand ways they can reduce their impact on nature.
"In an industry where the consumers depend on the ocean, it is vital for us to be using only eco-friendly materials and production processes that don't damage where we love to be, said Moore.
For Moore, its not just about selling eco-friendly versions of popular brands and products, such as shoes and sandals by Sanuk, and Volcom clothes and jeans, but its also about providing education. Moore says that many surfers are shocked when they learn about the impact their clothing and product choices may have on the environment.
We dont just sell great products, but we also like to educate the public, said Moore. Many people have no idea the impact their choices may have on the ocean that they love, and surfers want to ensure that the environment is protected, and theyre able to enjoy it for years to come, which is why our products have become so important to surfers and outdoor lovers in general.
