Civic leader and businessman Vincent Mudd has been seated as a member of the board of directors of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.

Mudd represents the San Diego County Water Authority on Metropolitan's 37-member board. He succeeds Lynne L. Heidel, who had served on the Metropolitan board since July 2010.

Mudd is president and chief executive officer of San Diego Office Interiors, a company he established with his wife, Cathy, in 1994. His firm, which includes LEED-accredited architects, planners and interior designers, specializes in design-build. He also teaches an Extended Studies course on sustainable design and construction principles. Mudd is also a licensed general contractor.

He has been involved in numerous civic endeavors. Mudd is the incoming chairman of the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corp., is chairman of San Diego's Citizen's Fiscal Sustainability Task Force and serves on the board of directors of San Diego State University's Campanile Foundation.

Mudd previously served on the board of the State Compensation Insurance Fund and was the immediate past-Chairman of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce.

He and his company have been recognized with numerous awards, including Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year, induction into Junior Achievement's Business Hall of Fame, the American Lung Association's Indoor Air Quality Award and the California Air Resources Cool California Award for Sustainable Design and Construction, among others.

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is a cooperative of 26 cities and water agencies serving nearly 19 million people in six counties. The district imports water from the Colorado River and Northern California to supplement local supplies, and helps its members to develop increased water conservation, recycling, storage and other resource-management programs.
