Samsung to Donate $3 Million to Hurricane Sandy Relief
Samsung Electronics North America today announced that it will provide $3 million to support residents of East Coast communities affected by Hurricane Sandy. Samsung pledged $3 million to the American Red Cross through ABC Television's ‘Day of Giving,' with viewer donations being matched on a dollar-for-dollar basis up to $3 million. In addition, the company is matching employee donations to help with rebuilding and recovery efforts.
“New Jersey has been home to Samsung's U.S. headquarters since we established our business here in 1982 and our region has been the hardest hit by this disaster,” said Y.K. Kim, President and CEO of Samsung Electronics North America. “Samsung's first priority has been to ensure the safety and security of our U.S. employees and their families. Now it is important that we provide assistance to our neighbors.”
Samsung's cash donations will provide immediate and direct assistance to those in greatest need. The company seeks to provide support now and during the recovery period in the weeks and months to come.
