Finding Deep Peace in the Contemplation and Anticipation of Death -- Summerland Publishing Releases "Death Comes Not as a Stranger" by Lois West Bristow, PhD
Santa Barbara, CA, October 24, 2012 --(PR.com)-- For many, the mention of death triggers feelings of discomfort and uneasiness. This book, Death Comes Not as a Stranger, explores making peace with death's inevitability. In this country today, people over 50 make up 24% of the population. Every day 8,000 people turn 65. Interest in the phenomenon of old age and death currently simmers just beneath the surface of our collective denial of aging and dying. Working with a transformative process, individuals can increase consciousness and gain awareness, which helps people live fuller, more rewarding lives.
Although we learn by doing something, Death is not a learning-by-doing exercise. People also learn by observation, by gathering information, by self-reflection, and by modeling their behavior on the actions of others. We learn, too, that the experiences and insights of others can play penetrating roles in shifting from the fear of to comfort with death as the other bookend of life. This book offers an opportunity to look at death differently. The peace that accompanies the embracing of death increases one's capacity for living a more expansive and vital life.
About the Author: Careers in education and business, as an elected official, a developer of passive solar townhomes, an author, lecturer, life-coach, and now, depth psychologist, have filled the last six decades. In 2005, at age 76, she returned to the Pacific Graduate Institute to earn a PhD in Depth Psychology and was granted her degree six weeks after her 80th birthday. Dr. Bristow currently writes, lectures, and maintains a small practice. Through it all she has encountered interesting and rewarding times---as well as navigated some very rocky roads--found joy and gained wisdom. The tragic death of her oldest son, Brad, brought the reality of death into focus. She loves spending time with her family and close friends and enjoys gardening and sculpting. Dr. Bristow is the mother of three and has five grown grandchildren. She lives in Santa Barbara County, California.
