Nashville, TN (PRWEB) October 31, 2012
Dr. Kevin Johnson, who participates in the Air Force evaluation of Lasik and PRK for fighter pilot cadets, was promoted to Lt. Colonel in the United States Air Force Reserves, effective Oct 1st. “We are very proud to support military personnel like Dr. Kevin Johnson as they continue to serve our country in the Air Force reserves. Dr. Johnson's expertise with diseases of the eye, contact fitting, and his extended background with Military Lasik evaluations make him a perfect fit for our practice,“ says Dr. Stewart Shofner.
Dr. Johnson was raised in Minnesota, and secured a Master degree in Communication from LSU. He received an Air Force Health Professions Scholarship for his Doctor of Optometry studies, at the University of Houston, and entered active duty in 1995. Dr. Johnson joined Dr. Stewart Shofner in 2003, shortly after entering Active Reserve status with the Air Force.
Dr. Johnson's Commitment to Military Pilot Candidates and Lasik
Dr. Johnson's continued reserve duty includes evaluating pilot candidates seeking Lasik and PRK surgery prior to flight training. After his most recent duty this past summer at the Air Force Academy, Dr. Johnson said, “The number one reason talented young people cannot be Air Force pilots is because they do not meet the rigid vision standards the Air Force sets for its pilots. It is gratifying to give academy cadets the opportunity to fulfill their dreams to fly after eye surgery. The Air Force began performing refractive surgery on pilots in 2001, and Shofner Vision Center uses the same state of the art Visx Star S4 technology that the Air Force trusts for its pilots. More importantly, we secure the same outstanding results. I've seen more than a few tears of joy falling from both civilian and military patient's eyes, who are seeing for the first time without glasses or contacts.”
A Family Man Serving in The Air Force Reserves
After serving on active duty in Panama, Colorado Springs, and Denver, Dr. Johnson has lived in Nashville since 2003. He is married with two young boys who keep him “grounded” these days. Dr. Johnson also completed the extremely demanding “Air Command and Staff College” this year.
“Air Force Reserve Commanders are well aware they can only protect our nation to the degree; employers like Dr. Shofner stand behind them. My sincere thanks go out to this proud son of Marine Brigadier General Austin Shofner, for his unfailing support of my military career as a Citizen Airman,” says Dr. Johnson.
