EDUCAUSE 2012 Game Changers Business Competition Finalists
The educational technology organization, EDUCAUSE, announces Their Game Changers Business Competition finalists.
Ann Arbor, MI (PRWEB) October 31, 2012
EDUCAUSE selected 10 finalists for the Game Changers Business Competition: Ginkgotree, iCollegeCrowd, Intellidemia, MediaCore, CampusQuad, Research Habits Digital, Scrible, Shuttle Cloud, USEED, and Via Response Technologies.
The contest offers a $26K marketing pack as its grand prize, and a runner-up first prize marketing bundle worth $20K. Winners will be chosen by how well they identified a problem in higher education, as well as how the company applied technology to address the issue. The award will promote startups who have significantly impacted information technology in higher education.
The finalists all hope to revolutionize education, mostly through software as a service (SaaS) tools for faculty or students. One of the startups, Ginkgotree, allows instructors to gather all their course materials, copyrighted or otherwise, in one, digital coursepack. Their COO, Lida Hasbrouck, explains, “We made Ginkgotree to be a powerful tool faculty and students actually like using.” Faculty will no longer need to photocopy textbooks, clear copyright through their institution, or fumble through bloated software. Their most important goal? Cutting costs for students. On average, students spend upwards of $500 every semester on course materials. Ginkgotree wants to push that down to around $150. The coursepack tool is free to faculty, and just $10/month for students.
The other finalists are also impressive. Have you ever wanted to highlight and annotate web pages? Scrible lets you do just that, and then save, share and collaborate on it with others. iCollege Crowd and USEED allow organizations to crowdsource solutions to challenges specifically to college students. Intellidemia is the creator of Concourse, an online syllabus. Video libraries for training and education can be built with MediaCore. For students interested in finding on-campus events, CampusQuad allows you to see what's happening now, like a virtual bill board. Research Habits Digital makes mobile applications for academic environments. Shuttle Cloud will help you with cloud migration and data management. And for everyone who hates the clicker, Via Response Technologies has an app for you.
