New federal efficiency standards for residential boilers went into effect in September, with Gillece Services providing and installing high efficiency boilers that meet those standards. High efficiency boilers are becoming a more popular option for many homeowners who want better efficiency and performance of their home heating equipment.

Gas-fired hot water boilers, which use heated water to heat a home, have a new minimum federal efficiency rating higher than before. The new standards have taken place in conjunction with the 2007 Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA). Now, gas-fired hot water boilers must have a minimum of 82% Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE).

AFUE, a measure of energy efficiency, is the ratio of heat production compared to energy consumption within a boiler or a furnace. An 82% efficiency boiler translates into 82% of its fuel's energy being used to heat a home. As this is the new minimum, many high efficiency boilers will have a higher AFUE, including ENERGY STAR® models.

High efficiency residential boilers provided by Gillece Services have a condensing design that meets or exceeds ENERGY STAR requirements. They are easy to install and factory-fire tested for reliable startup. These models also have a minimum of 83% AFUE ranging into the mid 90's for increased energy efficiency. High efficiency boilers help homeowners to heat their homes with additional savings and convenience benefits.

When making the switch from an outdated boiler to a new, high efficiency one, homeowners can notice quieter operation, less occupied space, improved ease of use, and overall better performance. High efficiency boilers are better for the environment with less wasted energy, and heating costs are decreased through fuel savings.

Gillece Services provides and installs many high efficiency home appliances in addition to boilers, such as furnaces, air conditioners, and water heaters. New efficiency standards create a movement toward replacing outdated, energy and money-wasting equipment with new systems that are cost-beneficial, environmentally friendly, and better performing. Homeowners can save significant money on annual heating costs when updating their systems, and in some cases, can reduce heating costs and pollution output by half.
