The DNS Made Easy DNS Failover and System Monitoring service provides flexibility to its clients by providing many configuration options to suit user requirements. For example, once the primary system is detected as available after an event has been resolved, customers have the option to revert to the primary system automatically or lock the record in backup state so that changes may be made at the facility that suffered the outage before reverting back to normal operations.
DNS Made Easy states that all clients using their DNS Failover service must have redundant ("mirrored") hosting elsewhere to use the DNS Failover service. In the three months of Q3 2012, the DNS Made Easy Failover service took action in response to 138,416 systems events. The downtime of the primary monitored systems ranged anywhere from 1 minute to as long as 8 days. With the use of the DNS Failover service, DNS Made Easy prevented 145,444 hours and 30 minutes of downtime during the months on Q3 2012.
In a survey done to 100 of DNS Made Easy's clients the average amount of revenue saved from hosting downtime was $4,800. DNS Made Easy was able to take this statistic and extrapolate this to all clients that used their failover service during Q3 2012. The total savings was calculated as being over $242 million USD. This calculation did not account for the possible loss of brand recognition and loss of trust that is often associated with a websites service outage.
