9 out 10 Recruitment Agencies Spend More Time on Administration than Talking to Candidates

A new survey from recruitment software specialist Darwin shows that the average recruiter is spending up 50% of their working day performing administrative tasks like searching the database, composing emails, and sending CV's and resumes over to Clients.

A study over a 12-month period by Darwin Corporation indicates that each day the typical recruiter spends:

  • up to 2 hours a day searching a database or emails for suitable candidates
  • up to 1.5 hours a day preparing & sending emails/CV's out to Clients
  • up to 2 hours per day updating database system notes
  • only 2 hours per day on the telephone discussing job vacancies with Candidates or Clients

Darwin discovered that administration element can account for over 50% of a recruiter's working day. If re-invested wisely this time could have been spent directly with Clients and Candidates, building rapport and relationships, and directly influencing generated fees.

Darwin gathered it's results by interviewing over 1000 recruitment agencies using its proprietary 'HealthCheck' survey. The survey, which is conducted online and takes approximately 8 minutes, asks the agency some key questions about its recruitment process and then generates a detailed report on where the agency is losing time and money. It can also apply these factors historically, to enable the Agency to quantify exactly how much poor administration has cost them over the last few years.

Mike Charter, CEO of Darwin, said: "It makes no sense whatsoever for an Agency to employ a great people person who is fantastic at relating to people, then have them spend most of their time not doing the job they've employed them to do."
