As a native of Georgia and a graduate of the College of Engineering at Georgia Tech University, James O'Kon is excited to be included in The Georgia Literary Festival. Since 1999, The Georgia Literary Festival has celebrated writing and writers in Georgia. Each year the festival is held in a different part of Georgia. This year the festival comes to the Golden Isles of Southeast Coastal Georgia. It will be held on Jekyll Island at the new Jekyll Island Convention Center as well as at the historic Jekyll Island Club Hotel, with over 30 authors gathering for this years festival.

O'Kon grew up in the Atlanta area playing in the Civil War battlefields that covered the hills near his home. They were still littered with rusted military armament and wasted shot. History taught him that Atlanta was the only American city destroyed by war, which fueled a young boy's imagination, and helped to spark his interest in ancient cultures.

Throughout his forty-year career, O'Kon has simultaneously explored and studied Maya ruins in and around the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico. His extensive engineering career includes designing the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum in Atlanta, Georgia.

Because of his fascination with the Maya, O'Kon decided to put his engineering expertise to work explaining the technology used by the Maya to produce their great civilization. The result of this research is his book,The Lost Secrets of Maya Technology, which will be available in Booth 17 at The Georgia Literary Festival and he will be happy to sign it.
