Torie & Howard's organic, all natural candy has been named the Best New Candy in the Kosherfest New Product Competition, and the new kosher candy will be presented the award during Kosherfest, which will be held Nov. 13 and 14 in Secaucus, N.Y., said Torie Burke, company co-founder.

The organic hard candy also was recognized Oct. 20 in the National Confectionery Sales Association's (NCSA) New Product Awards in Tampa, Fla., with a Certificate of Achievement, and earlier this year won first place in Coffee Fest's Best New Products Consumables Category, Burke said. “Howard Slatkin and I are thrilled that our organic candy has earned these recognitions. This all began when Howard and I wanted a truly satisfying, but healthy candy for ourselves, and we are so pleased that a lot of people are enjoying our candy for the same reasons.”

The annual Kosherfest New Product Competition recognizes the best new kosher products at retail and in foodservice. Product entries in 16 categories are reviewed by a jury of kosher retail and foodservice buyers, distributors, chefs and industry experts, who determine the winning products based on many factors, including taste, price, and sale-ability, according to Kosherfest.

The USDA Organic and Kosher certified low calorie candy, with just 12 calories, comes in four gourmet flavor combinations: Italian Tarocco Blood Orange and Wildflower Honey, California Pomegranate and Sweet Freestone Nectarine, D'Anjou Pear and Ceylon Cinnamon, and Pink Grapefruit and Tupelo Honey. “We wanted to create a healthy candy with epicurean flavors that people could enjoy as a guilt free indulgence,” she said. “So that's why we designed our organic candy without GMO, wheat, soy, casein, gluten, nuts or dairy.” All of the kosher candy also is free of preservatives, additives and artificial flavorings.

The two company founders, Burke, who is a well-known color consultant, and Howard Slatkin, a renowned interior designer, formed Torie & Howard to reflect their shared passion for good food and unique flavors as well as individual health-related events. Burke began experiencing severe food allergies, and Slatkin lost more than 100 pounds, which required both to adopt dietary changes and focus on healthy eating.

The candy is available in colorful 2-ounce recyclable steel tins and also in a playful handbag-shaped gift package. In addition, a portion of the proceeds is donated to Autism Speaks and the Wildlife Conservation Society. More information is available by calling 1-888-826-9554 or online at
