Louisiana Self Storage Facility Hosts Charity Storage Auction; Raises $320 for Charities, Including American Heart Association

Fort Knox Climate Controlled Self Storage Raises Money for Various Local and National Charities

MANDEVILLE, LA (PRWEB) October 30, 2012

You've gotta have heart, and as far as Kevin McKee and Fort Knox Climate Controlled Self Storage is concerned, you also have to give to those with heart problems. So McKee decided to host a Charity Storage auction to raise money for the American Heart Association and on October 23 he was able to sell a special unit of collected items for $320. The American Heart Association collected 60% of the money raised, while Kure It Cancer Research received 30% and the Self Storage Association's (SSA) Foundation Scholarship program garnered 10%.

Charity Storage is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising money for charities across the country through special self storage auctions. Charity Storage was created when Lance Watkins and Barry Hoeven had watched the popularity of self storage auctions grow and realized that the self storage industry could give back to society through special auctions whose entire proceeds would go to local and national charities.

“We found out about Charity Storage at the past spring's national SSA Conference in Florida and the enrollment process and promotion material helped make the process easy to do,” said McKee, the general manager of the Fort Knox facility. “Tenants have been contributing to the unit over the last several months so after we had filled our unit, we felt it was time to auction. The bidders were excited about the opportunity to bid on a well-rounded inventory of donations, as well as the fact that it was going for a good cause!”

“What a great first Charity Storage auction for Kevin and Fort Knox Climate Controlled Self Storage,” added Watkins, also the CEO of StorageTreasures. “By hosting a Charity Storage auction, Kevin has showed how much he wants to help others, especially through the American Heart Association. We are so pleased that he found out about us at the SSA Spring Conference & Trade Show and hope that he continues to lead the way by hosting many more Charity Storage auctions.”

And what was it about Charity Storage that appealed to McKee?

“The appeal of Charity Storage was the opportunity to provide an outlet for our tenants to donate items that are still of value to a great cause in a convenient location,” said McKee. “At Fort Knox, we strive to be an active participant in our community and our tenants love to be involved in any community events or programs which help our fellow man. This program provides a unique and convenient outlet for them. We are already collecting new items for our next auction. Word of mouth and internet posting by Fort Knox are helping get traction now for the program.”

Charity Storage is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit recognized as tax exempt by the IRS. Federal Tax ID# 45-3253579. For more information, visit or E-mail info(at)charitystorage(dot)org.
