St. Edward's University, a Top Liberal Arts University, Forms Partnership with Chinese University of Hong Kong, a Renowned Research University
New partnership will open doors for students abroad
Austin, TX (PRWEB) October 30, 2012
St. Edward's University announces a new international exchange partner in China as part of continued efforts to expand global education opportunities for students. Wu Yee Sun College, one of the constituent colleges of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, joins St. Edward's as its twelfth educational partner around the globe.
This partnership joins St. Edward's, a top liberal arts university, and Wu Yee Sun College, part of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, a renowned research university. Both emphasize the importance of a global perspective, social responsibility and the pursuit of personal passions - not just for personal gain but to promote the greater good.
"Our new partnership with Wu Yee Sun College of The Chinese University of Hong Kong will open doors for students to experience life in one of the world's leading financial centers, said George E. Martin, President of St. Edward's University. “It is necessary for students and faculty not only to observe and listen to the world but also to experience it through the eyes and ears of students and faculty from other cultures with different mindsets.”
Rance P.L. Lee, Master of Wu Yee Sun College of The Chinese University of Hong Kong said, “It is an exciting opportunity for our students to experience life at St. Edward's University in the United States. I believe by stepping out and getting to know the different development patterns and diverse life styles in Texas, students can definitely enrich their global visions.”
The first exchange of students between the two universities will take place in fall 2013. All courses will be taught in English, but students studying in Hong Kong will have the opportunity to learn Mandarin Chinese.
New international partnerships provide opportunities for American students to live and study abroad, but also help provide important cultural exchanges on campus in Austin. This year St. Edward's welcomed 120 new international students to campus – an institutional record and increase over last year's 101 new international students. Of the 120 students, 72 arrive as incoming freshmen. These students hail from 25 countries and can speak 27 languages other than English.
St. Edward's University has 12 partner universities in 10 countries:
