Tonya Stinson has been named executive director of the Farmington N.M. Convention and Visitors Bureau after serving as its interim director since last January. Farmington, NM (PRWEB) October 30, 2012

As its new executive director, Tonya Stinson will head Farmington's 28-year old destination marketing organization tasked with bringing tourists and group meetings to Farmington. “Our job is to put heads in beds and increase lodgers' tax revenue collected by the city,” says Stinson. Considered a diplomatic, problem solver, Stinson is looking ahead to developing more marketing partnerships in the community and the Four Corners region. “I have a resilient and hardworking staff. We are now actively initiating new marketing programs and refreshing the old ones,” she explains.

Funded chiefly by a percentage of a lodging tax on overnight travelers, the Bureau has an annual budget of nearly $800,000. It is non-profit organization with a staff of six contracted for its services by the City of Farmington. The Bureau is guided a 14-member board and also serves the interests of dues-paying members.
Over the years, the Bureau has offered numerous services to travelers from its visitor information center at 3041 E Main Street. Staff there greets more than 100,000 people annually; providing thousands of maps, restaurant lists, and brochures on area attractions.

The Farmington Bureau is unusual among destination marketing organizations for its free and comprehensive services for meeting planners bringing groups to the city. Bureau assistance includes pre -mailing to build attendance, registration help, name badges and welcome packets for attendees. The organization also works to promote major annual events in the city.

Stinson, moving ahead in her new leadership role with a steady hand and welcome smile, is planning for an impressive increase of visitors and meeting groups to this busy commercial center in the Four Corners in the coming years.
