OPENonline, a leading provider of employment background screening services that is accredited by the NAPBS Background Screening Credentialing Council, will host a complimentary webinar for HR professionals to update them on the background screening process and how to remain compliant. The HRCI-approved webinar, “Is Your Background Check Process Compliant? (The Changing Landscape of Background Checks),” will take place November 8 at 2:00pm EST and will be led by Karen Kontras, Certified Safe Hiring Specialist and Compliance and Quality Assurance Administrator at OPENonline.

On April 25th, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) issued updated Enforcement Guidance on the use of arrest and conviction records in the hiring process. In addition, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is now the enforcing agency for the FCRA and many state laws have also changed regarding the use of credit reports and social networking sites. With such monumental changes across the country, it is imperative that companies know how to remain compliant during the background screening process.

November's OPENonline webinar will be an overview of the EEOC, CFPB and state laws and how they have changed the way employers should conduct their pre-employment background checks.

“The shifting landscape of background screening requirements and regulations have triggered a lot of controversy and confusion in the industry,” said Heather Browning, Executive Vice President of OPENonline. “Compliance teams are faced with numerous challenges when it comes to assessing the risk of negligent hiring and disparate-impact claims. Our goal is to provide useful action-items to assist these teams with best-practices.”

The webinar – approved for 1 (General) recertification credit hour toward PHR, SPHR and GPHR recertification through the HR Certification Institute – is the first in OPENonline's Continued Compliance Education series.
